Why Flush Your Cooling System?
Your engine coolant provides several vital functions in your engine - but most people are only aware of the first one!
1) Prevents your coolant from freezing & ruining your engine!
2) Raises the boiling point of the coolant - so your radiator won't boil over!
3) Lubricates your water pump - so it does not blow up!
4) Contains an alkaline solution that neutralizes harmful acids that your engine introduces into your coolnat whenever it is running!
Many shops only check the freezing point of coolant - but that is not enough! The first part of your coolant to fail is the 4th function listed above, so that even though your coolant freeze point may be good to -40, it could at the same time be so acidic that it is literally "eating" away at your intake or head gaskets - which on many late model vehicles can easily translate into a $2500.00 repair!
We at OK Sales & Service make sure to properly test the engine coolant of every car that we service, to help you avoid major repairs in the future!
Why Flush Your Auto Transmission Fluid?
Next to your vehicle's engine, the automatic transmission is the most expensive component on your vehicle - costing anywhere from $2000.00 up to $5000.00 to replace. A repair bill that no one hopes they will one day have to experience!
The #1 cause of transmission failure is overheating - your transmission operates at an even higher temperature than your engine - which puts an extreme demand on your transmission fluid, since it must lubricate, and also cool your transmission (this is why mechanics recommend installing extra transmission oil coolers on vehicles that do a lot of towing).
Most manufacturers recommend that your transmission fluid/oil be replaced every 50,000 kms under normal service, or every 30,00 kms if you are towing, or operating the vehicle under any severe conditions. With our hot Okanagan summers, a fluid change of every 30,000 kms is recommended- even if you are not towing.
So make sure that your transmisssion fluid is checked regularly be a qualified mechanic - or even stop by at OK Sales & Service - and we will check it for no charge (most vehicles).
